BEWDLEY Town boss Craig Payton has continued his policy of giving local players a chance by snapping up two Wyre Forest lads.

Payton took advantage of his West Midlands League division one side's free weekend to bolster his playing staff for their final promotion push.

He has signed 20-year-old midfielder Sam Price from Brintons and former Stourport and Redditch centre half Russell Parmenter.

Price is comfortable in all positions across midfield, while Parmenter will add some experience and know-how to the back four.

"Sam's a talented young player and he's someone we've been trailing for quite a while," said Payton.

"Russell has been there and done it and after having a year out, we've persuaded him to play for us.

"They're both from round here and we always like to give local lads a chance so I'm confident they'll be good acquisitions for us."

With leaders Great Wyrley also out of action last weekend, it is "as they were" at the top of the table.

Payton confesses he already has an eye on the clash between the two pacesetters on Easter Monday next month.

But before then Bewdley bid to cement their grip on second place when they entertain Malvern Town at 2.15pm on Saturday.
