KIDDERMINSTER Harriers manager Stuart Watkiss was today waiting on an answer from wing target Wayne Corden.
But Watkiss admitted this morning that Coca-Cola League Two promotion chasers Scunthorpe United could now be classed as "favourites".
The 29-year-old is believed to have negotiated his release from Mansfield where he is out-of-favour following nearly five successful years at the club.
Though Corden would have a string of talented wide men to compete against at Scunthorpe, including ex-Everton man Peter Beagrie, Watkiss believes Harriers may be edged out.
He confessed: "I think Scunthorpe are slight favourites. Although I'm still optimistic, if I was a betting man I would put my money down on Scunthorpe.
"They want to be as strong as they possibly can for the run-in though they already have good wide players there who have taken them to second in the league."
However, the Lincolnshire side, who are thought to have offered a similar financial package to Harriers, are seeking re-inforcements following a 2-1 defeat at Wycombe Wanderers last night.
Meanwhile, relegation-haunted Harriers have major doubts over Gary Birch and Wayne Hatswell (both knee) for Saturday's clash at fellow strugglers Shrewsbury Town.
Watkiss was speaking to reserve left-back Steve Burton today over a possible loan move to Accrington Stanley until the end of the season.
