ALTHOUGH Gordon Selway was one of my opponents in the recent Slideslow election in Bromsgrove, the democratic process ran its course and the voters decided he was the best person to represent their interests in the council chamber.
I suspect one of the main reasons for his success, in what has been in the past traditionally been considered a safe Conservative seat, is that people in Bromsgrove feel that a change in the way things in the town are run is long ovedue.
When I heard that during Mr Selway's first attendance at a full council meeting a procedural move had been made by the controlling group to virtually exclude him from much of the decision making process, by preventing him sitting on any of the committees,
I felt it was nothing more than a cynical ploy to bolster the position of those who continue to run our council in an inefficient and often inept way.
The people of the Slideslow ward should demonstrate most strongly, and in every way possible support their newly elected councillor to ensure he is afforded every opportunity to represent them, fully ensuring that both their interests and concerns are given full consideration at all times.
