WORCESTER Mayor Coun Allah Ditta donned his traditional "shalwar kameez" to give his backing to St Richard's Hospice PJ Day next month.

Hundreds of workers and students across the county have already signed up to go bananas in their pyjamas on the charity fun day on Friday, March 4, to raise funds for the hospice.

And last week Worcestershire County Council chairman Derek Prodger donned his dressing gown and swapped his shoes for slippers to help launch the event - .

"My message is - if I can do it so can you!" said Coun Ditta.

The hospice is asking everyone at work or school to wear their pyjamas and make a donation to the charity which is trying to raise the final £1.25m towards a new hospice to be built near County Hall in Spetchley.

"If that's a bit too much, you can wear your dressing gown over your normal clothes or at the very least don your slippers!" said St Richard's fund-raising manager Tricia Cavell.
