FURTHER rises in pay for Worcester city councillors have been ruled out.

An independent panel has said it will not increase allowances for certain committee chairmen or the deputy leader as the authority asked.

But it has said it will consider the requests when it comes to setting pay levels next year as long as councillors prove they put in as much as they claim.

"It isn't going to be changed but there is a willingness to look at the issues," said council leader Coun Stephen Inman.

"In a year's time it will be incumbent upon councillors to fill in a diary sheet - it is the only way for them to get a good idea of the hours spent at work."

The cabinet on Tuesday night agreed to accept the panel's findings, meaning councillors' basic pay stays at £3,445 while additional allowances for committee chairmen will vary between £1,803 and £5,408.
