COMMUTERS in St Peter's will have somewhere else to take cover from the rain - as a total of eight new bus shelters are being installed in the city.

The work - which started on Monday - is being carried out on behalf of Worcester City Council and six of the new shelters are in St Peter's Drive - with another two in Newtown Road and Bromyard Road respectively.

Six of the eight shelters - which have cost a total of £25,000 and are being joint-funded by the city council and Worcestershire County Council's urban bus challenge - have already been installed.

The remainder are due to be in place by tomorrow.

Tom Comerford, the city council's senior engineer with traffic management transportation, said the works were part of the council's annual replacement programme.

"These shelters are the latest specification, providing a better protection from the weather," he said.

He added that further works were expected to take place before the end of the financial year.
