ENVIRONMENTAL health inspectors were called on for advice on a burnt-out building in Stourport after firefighters discovered asbestos in the roof.
Leading firefighter Steve Andrews said two pumps were called out to the disused storage shed on Worcester Road, Stourport, at 7.24pm on Tuesday and spent around two hours tackling the flames.
He added the cause of the fire was unknown but there were signs of forced entry and it might have been used as "some sort of den".
Mark Kay, environmental health and licensing officer for Wyre Forest District Council, said he spoke to firefighters on the telephone and it was decided there was no risk to the public.
There was only a small amount of asbestos sheeting, which had been damped down to prevent it from breaking up and it would be the owner's responsibility to clear up the site, he said.
"Any asbestos that did escape into the atmosphere would have been so diluted by smoke and hot air rising that it would not be any risk to the public," he added.
