THE February meeting was an illustrated talk by Hugh Cantlie on the life and work of Sir John Vanburgh, Dilettante or Genius? Members heard of his importance as architect of stately homes such as Castle Howard and Blenheim Palace, both of which clearly show the influence of his time in Paris, though he is equally famous as the author of some of the wittiest comedies of the early 18th century.
Our next meeting is at Evesham Arts Centre on Wednesday, April 13 at 8pm. and is entitled 1000 Years of English Churches. New members are welcome. Please contact the membership secretary on 01386 871211.
