I AGREE with the view expressed in the letter from Malcolm Flight (Shuttle/Times & News, February 10) that cars parked on cycle lanes are a dangerous obstacle for cyclists.
Cars, vans and lorries can park on the cycle lanes because there are no waiting and loading restrictions in force. It is astonishing that on a road such as Kidderminster's Bewdley Hill, which has a wide footpath with numerous entrances into private driveways, parking on the road should be permitted.
Cycle lanes help to maintain a consistent distance between the cyclist and motor vehicles. Allowing vehicles to park effectively removes the safety benefit that cycle lanes provide.
