ON a recent Sunday morning, I was in the empty Green Street surface car park near the Aldi supermarket in Kidderminster. To my astonishment there was a car park attendant booking several cars which appeared to have been there all night.
Possibly the reason for this was that their owners had gone home by taxi the night before, having consumed alcohol at the nearby pubs or clubs.
I beg the question: why is it necessary to have a parking warden on duty on a Sunday morning and, secondly, why were tickets issued?
These drivers appear to have taken the responsible step of returning home by taxi, only to have been booked for parking their cars in a safe place. Wyre Forest District Council should be supporting the action of the drivers concerned and not penalising them.
I nearly went over to the warden to protest, but I know that I would only have got the standard reply - "only doing my job, sir". The world has gone mad.
