RESPONSES to a questionnaire that will help shape that future of Broadway have come flooding back to the parish plan's steering group.

At the end of last month questionnaires were sent out 2,000 Broadway households to help shape the parish plan, and 200 were sent back within the first week.

The questionnaire, on one side of A4 paper, asks people to express their opinions on what matters to them about Broadway.

There is a pre-paid envelope with them, and they have to be returned by 27 February then the data will be collated.

Councillor Michael Gordon-Smith, chairman of the Broadway Parish Plan, and the only councillor in the steering group said: "We've had a good first response but we need to encourage people to send all of the questionnaires back. The other thing that's interesting is the range of comments and issues that concern people in their responses. It's enlightening to get their view on what they want to do in the village. We want the whole village to tale part and don't want anybody turning round to say 'You didn't give us a chance.' This is turning into a bigger and better exercise than we thought, we want to make sure that everybody gets involved."

A second questionnaire will be sent out with questions on subjects such as youth and transport around April this year.

The group, which has a budget of £9,000 for the project, will be doing in-depth research and open consultations on any major ideas which come out of the questionnaires.

The 12-strong group of volunteers, were granted £5,000 for the plan from Awards For All, a Lottery grant, at the end of September.

When Broadway Parish Council decided it wanted to have a parish plan, a sub-committee was set up, then a steering group.
