Tenbury United Reserves 1 Gemini 12
AFTER a number of good performances, the Reserves came unstuck when league leaders Gemini visited Palmer's Mead-ow and ran riot in the closing stages of their Kidderminster League First Division fixture.
The final score-line only tells a part of the story however. They conceded seven goals in the final 15 minutes after being reduced to nine men, having a player sent off in the first half and then losing their keeper after using all their available substitutes.
Gemini were two goals up inside ten minutes, the first down to sloppy marking but the second a well-worked free-kick on the edge of the box. Following a fracas in the centre of the pitch, Brett McIntosh was sent off for dissent.
Simon Newhill halved the deficit when he pounced on a mistake by the keeper. The home team held on until a couple of minutes before the break when they conceded for a third time. Jackie Magill struck a post in the early exchanges of the second half before the visitors rattled in a couple of goals to lead 5-1.
The Reserves used their two available substitutes and were holding out with 15 minutes to go when keeper Craig Kurkus cracked some ribs and had to leave the field. Mark Beaumont took over between the sticks and in spite of conceding seven managed to make a number of good saves as the leaders ran amok during the closing stages.
The Tenbury first team travelled to Bridgnorth but found their West Midlands League cup game called off.
