A TRUE love pledge has stood the test of time inside an old oak tree on a farm near Kidderminster.
It is a 100-year-old Valentine puzzler for farmer, John Jenkin, who discovered the initials R.B. and W.S. and the date 1905 inside the blasted oak on his land at St Michael's Farm in Great Witley.
"The tree is hundreds of years old and it was split apart by lightning a long time ago, probably in the 18th century. You can walk inside it," said Mr Jenkin, who came across the elaborate inscription shortly after he took over the farm 30 years ago. He has been wondering about the pair ever since.
"The initials are beautifully carved with the date 1905 and love hearts. It's fascinating to wonder about these two," he said. "If they were aged 15 at the time, one of them may have died on a First World War battlefield, for instance."
Mr Jenkin said the initials did not match any previous owners of the farm that he knew about and he was hoping someone might be able to help him find out who they were.
