TRADITION is easy to destroy; tradition is also easy to maintain, by simply treasuring tradition, discipline and respect, well-being and an understanding of one and for another. Show a laxity here, take a nibble there and the cookie will soon crumble.
I have just read the report by Lindsay Holder (Malvern Gazette, February 11) that there is a strong consideration to centralise all meals in one large building at Malvern College and, further, a spokesman for the college stating that: "The current facilities are a bit out of date."
What a nonsense: the continuance of separate houses, in every concept, is of the utmost importance to the college as a whole.
Eating together, eating in their own house (so proud of it) and eating there in the compounds of a home from home is most important for the younger boys.
The food, and the cooking, is good, usually very good, and the housemaster and his helpers are always around. In no way could a joint kitchen serving so many possibly compare in quality or conditions as before.
Would I send my grandson as I did my son before? Possibly not.
