INJURY-plagued striker Iyseden Christie faced a big hurdle today as Kidderminster Harriers checked on his fitness before a long-awaited comeback.

The 28-year-old has made just two Coca-Cola League Two substitute appearances in September and October since signing on a two-year deal in the summer.

Christie had a broken foot when he put pen to paper but Harriers hoped the proven goalscorer could recover fitness quickly, only for an infection to ruin their plans.

But the ex-Coventry, Mansfield and Leyton Orient player came through a 50-minute training game this week.

Harriers were today checking on any reaction to the run-out following a day off for the players yesterday but boss Stuart Watkiss is still not setting a date for his return ahead of Harriers' vital visit to Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

He has, however, admitted Christie could well be thrown in at the deep end when fit as his return would be like "making a new signing".

Watkiss said: "Iyseden was ordered to rest up and we shall have a look at it. Shrewsbury may be a little too early but you never know."

Harriers were still waiting for an answer from Mansfield winger Wayne Corden with Scunthorpe now thought to be favourites.
