WITH reference to comments made at the executive Wychavon meeting, about the Lido, I was astounded to read the comment from Councillor Eileen Hope that we should not put money into the Lido for people from Birmingham to use it.

Where has she been for the last 20 to 30 years? Droitwich Spa is made up of "Brummies".

A lot of them moved around the time I did in the 60s - and many moved here previous to that date.

Birmingham people brought trade and industry to this town. Many of them, like myself, have spent years working hard for Droitwich Spa and some, like myself, voluntarily.

Councillor Hope and several of her colleagues have told us for years that we have to have tourism and they have spent money in the past trying to encourage it and going to expensive conferences paid for by local residents.

What does she think tourists are? Well, I can tell her, they are visitors from other towns, cities and countries - only we no longer have anything for them to tour round.

The Lido would be a superb attraction alongside the Canals Project - or are they planning to build a wall around that so that tourists can't get in?
