THE letter from Richard Chamings ("We stand for anything these days", Wednesday, February 9) points out the futility of the stand taken by the Conservatives over immigration.

This farce of the proposals on immigration controls, put forward by both Labour and Tory parties, has been shown up by the decision last week of the Spanish Government to give residency rights and work permits to one million illegal immigrants.

This means they can legally travel to any country in the EU and we can do nothing about it. UKIP's policy on withdrawal from the EU is the only way we can take back control of our own country.

PETER LLOYD,
