A WOMAN driver narrowly escaped death yesterday when her car veered off the road and hung precariously over a verge.
Firefighters took nearly one hour to secure the car and to release the woman, who was trapped inside.
The incident happened at around 3pm on the A449 near Eastnor, Ledbury, just by the railway bridge.
The woman was taken to Herefordshire County Hospital, although it is not known how serious her injuries were.
"The car was hanging over a verge, and although I don't know exactly how far the drop the other side was, the impression I got was that she was lucky," said a spokesperson for the fire service.
"Crews had to make the car safe before releasing the woman. No other vehicles were involved."
