A WORCESTER child-carer has achieved a new qualification in record time.
Vicky Hudson, who works at the Happylands Day Nursery in St John's, Worcester, is the first to complete an Apprenticeship in Early Years Care.
Funded by the local Learning and Skills Council, the programme commenced 18 months ago, and to date, 30 individuals have been enrolled onto the scheme.
It enables individuals to develop "hands-on" capabilities and key skills, such as problem-solving.
It also involves training programmes such as Paediatric First Aid and planned activities including cooking with children.
Assessment is through observational exercises and oral questioning to ensure that carers are able to apply the theory they have learnt in practice.
Vicky, aged 21, achieved her apprenticeship in just three months. She has worked in childcare for three years and has now been able to progress to take on the role of a supervisor.
"The Early Years Apprenticeship has not only given me greater confidence in my ability but has also made me aware of the thinking behind, and the importance of, various care practices," she said.
Jennie Harrison, work-based learning manager at the local LSC, added: "We congratulate Vicky on her recent achievement and wish her every success in her future career.
"Vicky's achievement is an example of how Apprenticeships are benefiting young people across Worcestershire."
