ALCESTER fencer Christopher Brenda came second in the under 17 section of the National Junior League recently.
It's the 16-year-old Alcester High School pupil's first major achievement in the sport and is on his way in emulating his brothers' outstanding achievements.
His three brothers, David and twins Richard and Thomas, between them have been British Champions twice and England Champions three times as well as winning several individual and team competitions and competing twice at the Junior World Championships.
But during this year Chris has consistently built up points by being placed in at least the last eight of every league competition entered.
And his achievements have led him to pick up £50 of fencing equipment.
All of his brothers are now at university but still have time for fencing and since September the have collectively amassed five second places and three third places in junior and adult competitions. That included a second and third at both the National under 20 Championships and the National University Championships.
Richard Brenda is the first in the fencing family to receive sponsorship under the elite athletes' scheme via SportsAid and the West Midlands Police Sports Fund.
The sponsorship will pay for extra training and entry into one of the major European Competitions.
Stratford Fencing Club where all the Brenda brothers have trained meet at Shottery Village Hall on Tuesday nights. For more details about joining call Mike Garritty on 01386 841028.
