TWO bus shelters next to a zebra crossing have been branded "ridiculous and dangerous" by residents and will be ripped out just weeks after being installed.
Work carried out on Station Way by former Kingfisher Centre owners Thornfield saw the installation of a zebra crossing with bus shelters to the left on either side of the road.
When a bus stops at a shelter, pedestrians using the crossing cannot see what is coming and car drivers are unable to see anyone stepping out into the road.
At a central and Southcrest neighbourhood group meeting, one resident said: "It was a totally ridiculous thing to do. People are at risk because they're just walking into the road blind, they can't see a thing. It's extremely dangerous.
"Pedestrians were able to cross this road safely before. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. "
A Thornfield spokesman said: "After discussions with Redditch Council, concerns about the location of these shelters have been highlighted.
"Work is now in hand to relocate them."
