NINE-year-old "Shadow" - a mare from the Hollywood Road School, Wythall - was drinking from a trough alongside a wall of the school on Saturday when another horse started to kick her.

"Shadow" panicked and started to run away but slipped on the ice and fell into the trough.

All attempts by the attendants at the school failed to get her out of the trough and eventually the fire brigade was called.

The firemen managed to release her.

She was not hurt except for a small graze over her eye.
