GOOD LUNCH CLUB: The February lunch in the Lifford Hall produced a capacity crowd. The proceeds of £180 were donated to the Barn Close surgery.
The next event will be a tea dance on March 18, starting at 3.30pm for £4 a person. No formal invitations will be issued.
TSUNAMI APPEAL: Following the report on January 20 in the Journal, the booklet produced by Stanley Saunders on Members of Parliament for the Cotswolds and Worcestershire Constituencies from 1906 to the present day produced £82 for the appeal.
CONSERVATIVES MEET: The AGM of Broadway, Childswickham and Wickhamford Conservatives was held at the Lifford Hall with the chairman, Mr Granville Shaw, presiding.
The chairman reported the branch achieved a 20 per cent increase in membership. It had hosted six events including a Christmas party which produced a £800 profit from 86 guests. As a result £1,600 had donated to the mid-Worcestershire association.
Mrs Diana Franks and Mr Richard Mumford addressed the meeting to support the county councillors in the May elections. They also indicated that the General Election would take place at that time.
GARDEN CLUB: The January meeting was addressed by Susan Burn on the subject Batsford Through The Year. She is the propagator in the estate.
The garden was created 120 years ago by Algernon Mitford, later Lord Redesdale, who was an authority on bamboo, which were extensively planted on the estate.
The competition for a photo of autumn colour was won by Gerald Townsend, Pam Shaw was second and Diane Stacey was third,.
The next meeting will be on Monday at the usual time and venue. The speaker will be Margaret Sheward on The Specialist Plant Unit at Pershore College. The competition will be for a vase of spring flowers.
