GARDENING CLUB: The chairman welcomed members to the meeting and remarked on the wonderful display of snowdrops submitted for the monthly competition. Good luck wishes were given to the quiz team for the forthcoming inter-club gardening quiz. Updates were given about the club holiday and future outings.
The guest speaker, Sue Burn, gave a talk and slide show, sharing her extensive knowledge of Batsford Arboretum with the audience. Sue is the propagator and education supervisor at Batsford as well as being an accomplished photographer. Club members were impressed by Sue's knowledge of the trees and plants at Batsford as well as its history. Members learnt that the Mitford girls had lived at Batsford for a short time and American soldiers had used part of the mansion during the Second World War.
The chairman thanked Sue for her Tour of Batsford by slide and announced that the winner of the snowdrop competition was Stephanie Brookes.
