ARTS AND CRAFTS SOCIETY: The speaker for February 15 was Mrs Jill Wilson, who gave a talk with slides on The Art of Sundials. She told of the long history of this most ancient time keeper of the planetary influences of the sun and moon and the winter and summer solstices.
The annual meeting is on March 15, followed by a talk on Beckford silk. The society meets each month on the third Tuesday at 7.30pm in the Townsend Hall.
MUSIC SOCIETY: Memory Lane was the venue for the members of the Music Society on Friday, February 18. This was to hear a programme of music from the 1950-1960 period devised by the chairman from recordings and suggested music provided by members.
A clever programme based on songs; films; jazz; and classical pieces from well known artists of the period had the audience chasing their memories and perhaps recalling the tune but not the name of the composer or singer.
Thanks were expressed to the chairman and also to Norman Jones for editing the recordings.
The next meeting on Friday, March 18 will see the return visit of Larry Robson and Rosemary Robson for a live concert of music for piano and clarinet at the Methodist Church at 7.30pm. Visitors and guests welcome. Contact on 01608 661808.
