JOBS at Droitwich's Customs and Excise office will be transferred elsewhere, it has been confirmed.
More than 100 workers will be affected by the move, which has come about following the sale of the Worcester Road site by the Ministry of Defence.
Staff will be offered the chance to transfer to Customs offices in Wolverhampton, Birmingham and possibly Coventry, or they will be offered work within other Government departments.
The MoD had given Customs until next month to leave but the department exercised its legal right to remain there until March 2006.
The decision has been met with anger from Mid-Worcestershire MP Peter Luff, who has campaigned against the closure of both the Customs office and the Army Medals Office, which ran from the same site.
"The MoD's scandalous and short-sighted decision to close their medal office in a squalid attempt to raise short-term cash from the sale of the site caused misery and uncertainty to their own staff," he said.
"Now it looks set to do exactly the same to other public servants."
Mr Luff said he would be meeting Customs staff next month to explore ways of preventing the closure.
But Treasury Minister Dawn Primarolo said that no redundancies were expected as the Government wanted to help employees find different work in the area.
