LAST Sunday saw the reigning Soccer Site Malvern League division one champions Bishops Frome visit Bell Inn 98 knowing that a victory would see them regain top spot.
Bell Inn 98 performed better than they have for several weeks and made a good contest of the game but were unable to halt Bishops Frome's march to the top, courtesy of goals from Matt Beale and Wayne Tizzard.
The other clash in division one saw Dynamo Ledbury improve their hopes of the title when they met Cross Keys at New Road and took all three points with a 2-0 victory.
The first half was rather a dull affair with both sides cancelling each other out without creating clear-cut chances. Dynamo Ledbury had a setback in the 30th minute when keeper Mark Davies was injured and had to leave the pitch to be replaced by Mitch Preedy.
Dynamo Ledbury took the lead following a corner when centre-half James Brighton sent in a header from the edge of the area which hit the upright and rebounded straight back to him. He proceeded to send in a fierce volley which gave the keeper no chance. It became 2-0 when Matt Grey found himself just inside the penalty area with the ball. His resultant shot seemed to be bobbling wide but, much to the surprise of the visiting keeper and himself, the ball ended up gently rolling into the corner of the net.
Cross Keys were unable to pull anything back and in fact they never really tested stand-in keeper Preedy. Dynamo now find themselves in the position that if they win their games in hand they can go to the top of the table.
In division two, Belmont Keys returned to winning form and their 10-0 victory over Keys Victoria saw them leapfrog Keyz 04 into second place only a point behind leaders Perowne Park Rangers. Belmont's goals came from Dave Perera with four, two for Rob Jones and one each for Matt Doveton, Joe Gillett, Matt Pearce and Darren Pearce.
In the day's only other game Fromes Hill achieved a rare double, a victory and keeping a clean sheet, when they beat visitors Dilligaf United 1-0. On a pitch, which was in fairly poor condition and not helped by the remains of a frost Fromes Hill had slightly the better of the early exchanges. Mike Wilesmith almost gave them the lead in the 10th minute but his fierce shot rebounded to safety off the post.
Ross Sweetman then had the opportunity to give them the lead but he dragged his shot wide when clean through. Dilligaf almost made the home side pay for their missed chances when a bad slip by a home defender let in Blackie Smith, but his shot went narrowly wide with the home keeper beaten.
Sweetman then fired over from close range before an excellent move saw Fromes Hill take the lead in the 37th minute when Shaun Taylor raced onto a through ball and shrugged of a tackle before crashing home a shot via the underside of the cross bar. Blackie Smith then saw his shot hit a post as Dilligaf ended the half the stronger. Two long-range free-kicks put the home side under pressure with the first being punched off the line by the keeper and the second touched around the post for a corner. Fromes Hill had the chance to increase their lead in the 65th minute when they were awarded a penalty and also saw the visiting keeper sent off, but Paul Stubbs saw his spot-kick saved by stand-in keeper Matt Dance.
Ali Barnes went close for the visitors who also ended the game with two long range free-kicks which bought the best out of keeper Robert Ashley who had 'volunteered' to go between the posts when no regular keeper was available. But it was Fromes Hill who took the points to move above their opponents in the league.
