WEST Malvern travelled to Martley on Saturday to play a semi-final of the Martley Cup.
MARTLEY SPURS 5, WEST MALVERN 0
On a cold and blustery day West Malvern failed to lift their game for the occasion. They made a sloppy start and were a goal down inside five minutes. A headed back pass to the keeper slipped out of his hands and the forward ran the ball into the empty net.
Things went from bad to worse when inside 15 minutes West Malvern conceded another silly goal. After 30 minutes they were forced to make a change when Duncan McKerragher come off with an injury.
The second half was barely five minutes old when once again sloppy defending allowed Martley in to increase their lead to 3-0. West Malvern continued to try and apply pressure to the Martley defence but made little headway.
They substituted Paul Sirrett, who was having a good game but had two knocks and replaced him with Andy Holder.
West Malvern continued to battle away but had few chances to reduce the arrears and conceded two more goals before the final whistle.
Martley will meet Powick in the cup final after Powick came through their semi-final against Kempsey with a 4-2 win.
This was a poor display by West Malvern and they look to improve their form tomorrow (Saturday) when they return to Phipps Cup duty in the final game of the competition when they entertain Fernhill Heath Spurs, kick-off 2.15pm, players to report to the ground at 1.30pm.
Players contact manager 12.30pm Saturday morning to make sure ground is playable.
West Malvern are sponsored by Amey and the Cross Keys.
