EVENING News Wishbands are becoming rarer to find as they rapidly sell out in shops and schools.
Thousands of pounds have been raised from the sale of the bands and it is estimated that less than 100 are now left to be snapped up across the county.
Schoolchildren, local dignitaries and even celebrities have all bought bands to wear, showing their support for the relief effort.
"It has been absolutely overwhelming how fast they have sold," said Evening News editor Stewart Gilbert.
"The support from readers has been fantastic."
The Evening News ordered 15,000 Wishbands and asked for a minimum donation of £1.50 for each one in the hope of raising £22,500.
Once all the money has been collected in it will be forwarded to the United Nation's Children's Fund.
Evening News readers have proved even more generous still, raising an additional £18,713.98 from direct donations and fund-raising events for UNICEF.
