A MAN has described how what he thought was "thunder" was actually a car ploughing into the side of his house.
Derek Fitzhenry, aged 65, had been in the warehouse of his boat building workshop at the Kingfisher Marina, near Pershore, just five minutes before a car came off the road, drove 30ft down an embankment and became embedded in the wall at around 9.15am today.
"My wife and I just heard a noise like a loud bang and thought it was thunder," Mr Fitzhenry told the Worcester News.
"When we looked through the window we couldn't believe it."
A 53-year-old man suffering arm injuries was released from the BMW 3 Series estate and flown to Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham, by air ambulance.
He was unconscious when paramedics arrived but had regained consciousness.
Firefighters using specialist cutting equipment to remove the roof off the vehicle.
Sgt Alistair Short said no other vehicle was involved in the accident.
"The lady in the house was very lucky as she was in the kitchen at the time," he said.
"The car went into the warehouse which was just to the left of where she was standing."
Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to contact Sgt Short or PC Brian Berry of the operational response unit in Pershore on 08457 444888.
