A DETERMINED Droitwich duo are raking in the cash as they prepare to smash the world record for the longest rally.

Steve Worrallo and Allan Benbow from Droitwich Spa Tennis Club are set to push themselves to the limit when they attempt to break the 9hr 7mins-long record on Saturday, April 23.

The record attempt has helped to raise the £150,000 target needed to build a new clubhouse, which will be officially opened on the same day as the rally.

"I thought it would be the ideal way of raising money and the club's profile," said Mr Worrallo.

"It's such a massive task that it has gripped the imagination of a lot of people already."

The current record was set by American pair Ray Miller and Rob Peterson in 2000, when they played 17,062 shots non-stop.

So far the duo, who have been training twice a week for the attempt, have managed to keep a rally going for an hour and a half.

However, Mr Worrallo said he was confident they would be well prepared for their attempt to put their name in the Guinness Book of World Records.

"Concentration is the most important thing as any lapses would end the attempt," he said.

"But Allan and I have been practising hard and will intensify our training the closer we get to the date.

"The hardest part will be the first few hours - once we get into a rhythm we will have every chance of beating the record."
