RIDERS from Worcester St John's were able to look back on a job well done as the winter cyclo-cross season drew to a close with the 12th and final round of the West Midlands League at Rugeley.
New club member Joe Page rode particularly well in the under 12s races, finishing in the top five in most rounds to give him third overall in the league table.
Halesowen's Joshua Papworth was the runaway winner of the under 12s and Page missed out on second spot to Halesowen's Jess Wieckonski by just one point.
This year's senior category was characterised by a marked increase in the speed of races as some new faces signed up for the competition, including Team Cadbury's Mark Allen and France-based Dan Harding.
After two years out of cyclo-cross, a resurgent Gavin Poupart made his presence felt in the senior events, giving the Saints' several top-five finishes.
However, such was the strength of competition, Poupart's efforts saw him in sixth place overall in the tables, once again topped by Halesowen's Steve Knight.
Following a good ride in the Three Peaks race in late September, Saints' Jon Newey found the form hard to maintain.
Having looked a likely top 10 contender for much of the season, illness in the new year saw him miss several rounds and slide down the table to eventually finish 16th overall.
Tuesday evening time trials for Worcester St John's begin again on April 12.
