"COUNCIL blocks bid for barrier" read the headline (Evening News, Wednesday, February 9).

Shouldn't common sense come into play when making decisions on requests for road safety matters?

According to the Road Safety Partnership, it costs £400,000 per road injury and £1,000,000 per death and yet we are told the barrier is being refused "because there has been no recorded injury".

Wouldn't it make taxpayers happier to have a £20,000 barrier fitted and save £380,000? I suppose the downside is it blocks the excuse for a speed camera site.
