A NEW honour for public sector communicators is being launched this week in memory of an award-winning Worcestershire PR manager, who died in 2003.

The LGcommunications Kevin Galloway Award will recognise creative campaigns that achieved change for the better in local communities.

Award sponsors Grant Riches Communications Consultants will take part in the judging process, which will look for a "happy ending" to a communications project that improved people's quality of life.

Public relations and communications teams or individuals from any part of the public sector are being encouraged to apply before Tuesday, March 15.

The winner will be announced on Thursday, April 14.

Father-of-two Kevin Galloway was PR manager for Worcestershire County Council when he died from a hereditary heart condition, aged 42.

He was best known for master-minding the "Ludicrous Lollipop Law" campaign that led to a national law on school crossing patrols being changed to give extra protection to children and toddlers.

"We were working on a major project in Worcestershire with Kevin shortly before his death," said Carol Grant, director of Grant Riches.

"Like everyone in the local government PR community, we were shocked to lose such a talented professional and a thoroughly decent man."
