Bretforton II 7, Wootton Bassett II 2

A GOOD victory on Saturday boosted Bretforton's promotion push while also improving their goal difference.

The hosts worked well together to produce a steady flow of goals throughout the match.

The first came after five minutes from Sue Sheppard. The next two were fired into the net by captain Sarah Bragg and good passing and inter-play from midfielders Ceri Barber and Shirley Aubrey fed the ball into Sheppard who struck a fourth.

The home side then let their guard down and Bassett were handed a lifeline. Several short corners were awarded and. although initial strikes were saved, the visitors were allowed to play the ball around the D.

Their first goal was raised over a grounded goalkeeper, while the second was again unopposed by the defenders.

Bretforton soon got back to business in the second half when they maintained control and possession with fluid passing.

Occasional bursts up the field by Bassett were met with determined defending with especially strong play from right defence Lesley McKinnon.

Julie Hall also proved a strong link in the team finding space and maintaining firm possession despite the dogged efforts of the visitors' rearguard.

The winger frequently fed in excellent crosses for her forwards who had the time and space to play around the opposition's frustrated goalie.

Further goals arrived with two from Bernie Amphlett.

The final goal completed a deserved hat-trick for player of the match Sheppard.
