A PERSHORE woman hanged herself the day after the death of her elderly mother, an inquest heard.

Carol Anne Bourne, aged 58, of Three Springs Road, had been drinking before she took her own life.

Her partner David Smith found her hanging from the stairs at 7am on Thursday, October 14, 2004.

Ms Bourne, whose 29-year-old son killed himself in 1999, had a history of managing her problems with alcohol.

On the eve of her death she had argued with Mr Smith, with whom she had been in a relationship with for about 10 years, and he went to bed at about 1am.

"Because of a breakdown in the relationship, the two were sleeping in separate rooms, so Mr Smith had no reason to suspect she had not gone to bed that night," said Worcestershire coroner Victor Round.

At the inquest yesterday, Mr Round said that Mr Smith woke to the grim find and paramedics concluded she had been dead for some time.

Mr Round concluded that she had taken her own life.
