IT'S been a bitter sweet seven days for leading Evesham Sunday League football side Ambassador.
After being thrown out of the Tewkesbury Sports Knockout Cup, the league's leading knockout competition, the Amby hit back in style to book a place in the final of the Worcestershire FA Junior Cup competition.
Rednal Social were last Sunday's semi-final opponents and a tense affair was expected and that proved to be the case despite the Evesham side taking a 2-0 lead.
After missing a couple of early chances, Martin Schembri gave the Ambassador the interval advantage and that lead was doubled within five minutes of the restart when Danny James made it 2-0.
Both sides were knocking the ball about in confident fashion but it was Rednal who found the six minutes from time to set up a nervy final few minutes but the Ambassador hung on to claim a final slot.
Graeme Hay was the man who cost the first division side their cup place after having appeared for Wickhamford in the Bluck Cup last October.
Competition rules state that "a player having played for a team in any interval cup competition shall be deemed cup-tied to that team for all internal cup competitions that season".
The league was assured a county cup finalist in the Minor Cup but Bredon's 2-0 defeat at the hands of Harriers Trust, who had defeated Hampton in the previous round, foiled the prospect of an all-Evesham final.
However, Bretforton Sports Old Boys had no problems in overcoming fellow third division outfit Defford and Besford 6-0 thanks to a Paul Jones treble, two from Jon Gregory and one from Daryl Mitchell.
The Old Boys have won the Saturday Minor Cup as far back as 1911, but this will be their first Sunday County Cup final.
