WORCESTER Nomads Cricket Club is on the up and building for the future, according to its chairman.
John Prickett outlined the events of the past 12 months at the club's annual general meeting.
After four years of waiting, Nomads have finally received a National Lottery grant for a ground extension, thanks to the persistence of the late Bill Jones.
The club has also had six new pitches laid, which will enable them to play in the centre of the cricket field.
Secretary Dave Pearson reported the sad loss of Bill Jones after a short illness and also Peter Candlin and Phil Knight, a former member of the club.
Treasurer Chris Marsh said the club had a poor financial year and needed more fund raising events as well as minimising the loss of matches.
Marsh emphasised the need for members to support the club and its facilities.
Gerry Jinks is set to continue as President for a third year, while Mrs S D Jones was elected unanimously as a Life Member.
Darren Lakin was elected as club captain, with the support of Phil Newport as vice captain.
Nomads have also added overseas recruit Sachin Khartade for the start of the new season.
Dave Finbow was elected as Second XI skipper and Prickett will run the Thirds. Nick Williams was elected Sunday Firsts captain, with Dave Pearson Seconds skipper.
Barrie Rees will once again be the League Match Day Manager and the youth chairman is again Bob Carter.
The club is due to hold a charity auction on Friday, March 11 at Worcestershire CCC.
Worcester-based auctioneer Philip Serrell, from the BBC's Antiques Roadshow and Bargain Hunt, will run the auction, with 50 per cent of proceeds going to The Acorns Hospice.
Nomads have also started their indoor nets at Royal Grammar School Worcester on Sundays.
Eight to 12-year-olds get their chance between 4.30pm and 6pm, while 6pm to 7pm sees the turn of the over 14s and seniors.
