I WOULD like to express my disbelief with the Wychavon councillors' obvious disdain for the people of Droitwich's strong feelings about their lido.

It is an outrage I hope will be reflected in the forthcoming local elections!

But then again when have our councillors ever stood up for the rights of Droitwich and its heritage.

I have lived in the town since the mid-Sixties and in that time I've seen the removal of a Droitwich cinema and hospital

We used to have a railway station where you could ask staff about times and journeys - as well as buy tickets, and we now have a police station that actually closes at night whilst in the day it boasts of a staff less than half the size it was in the Sixties with possibly half the population that present day Droitwich has.

There was certainly less street and home crime then.

We've got the future closure of the registry office, with its obvious difficulties arising for old people and people without transport to register deaths or births, the closure of the Droitwich indoor market, which was opposed by everyone I spoke to about it with the exception of the councillors, who knew better than to ask the people they say they represent.

The only thing we've been offered in return is a Waitrose supermarket monstrosity which nobody wants and staffed by people from Kidderminster.

What development can we eagerly await for transforming the the lido park into a 21st century facility? By past record can we anticipate a new estate agent's, a nursing home, or perhaps yet another white elephant.

After all, who needs an ice rink or outdoor lido? Obviously the council doesn't think Droitwich deserves one.
