THE course at The Vale Golf and Country Club has been in superb condition especially the greens.

Last weekend saw the staging of the Winter League final that marks the beginning of the golfing season.

This year's competition was won by Rob Millward and Bob Claude with a magnificent score of 44 points - three clear of Mike Filleul and Fred Fawkes with defending champions Jeremy Shakespeare and Geoff Scott an admirable third.

The ladies Scratch team played in the Mail on Sunday Knockout against a strong Bransford side that saw Angela Catlin claim victory at the first extra hole.

Catlin and teammates Fi Mitchell, Rosie Loh, Aimee Ledbury, Jenny Braithwaite and Jackie Marks had earlier tied the match 3-3 before the sudden death play-off success.

On an equally successful note, the seniors won their second scratch foursomes match against The Worcestershire and progress to the next stages.

The team comprising of Stroud, Shepherd, Hampson, Evans and Berkely won a tight match 2-1.
