Evesham U-13 7, Shipston 31pts

THE visitors showed their intentions from the start as they pushed Evesham back into their 22 almost immediately.

The hosts defended well and didn't yield to a sustained attack, while good defensive play by the forwards Josh Gre-atrix, Adam Meadows, Anthony Watts, Russell Boyles, Mike Ibbotson and Mike Gander eventually allowed Evesham to go on the attack.

The Cotswolds side responded by pushing their hosts back again with some good running to score an unconverted try.

The visitors added a second try five minutes later but Evesham then got themselves together and went on the offensive.

Some good running by flan-kers Mike Diston and Sam Hop-kins pushed the home team into the Shipston half and, after several good phases of play, Jon Farrar sprinted through to score a try converted by Diston.

Shipston responded with a third score and conversion to lead 17-7 at the break before which Evesham had threatened to trim the arrears.

However, it was Shipston who went on the attack after the restart but they were almost caught out when player of the match Anthony Watts crossed the line only to have the try disallowed.

That proved the turning point as Shipston took control and Evesham never really got back in the running.

The injured Diston was repl-aced by Jamie Fisher who helped his side withstand a series of sustained attacks.

Despite some desperate clearances by Luca Grillo, Ben and Jon Farrar and Matt Hyde, the visitors touched down for two more tries to give the final sco-reline a rather flattering appearance.

The Under-13s are in action again on Saturday at home against touring team Corsham and again the next day when they play host to Stratford on Avon.
