THE concerned parent of a Bromsgrove pupil has hit out at his former school's bullying policy claiming a knife was brought into the school and held to another pupil's throat.
The worried mum contacted the Advertiser/Messenger claiming the approach to bullying by St John's Middle School, in Watt Close, was not good enough and its anti-bullying policy was not worth the paper it is written on.
She claims there has even been an incident of a knife being taken into the school and lighters being held to children's hair.
Her traumatised son has now left after he says he was repeatedly bullied.
"Our child was constantly bullied at this school, resulting in him having suicidal thoughts and receiving injuries needing medical treatment," said the mum, who did not want to be named.
She said she had heard of one pupil holding a knife to another's throat.
And she also claimed the school was very unsupportive and showed no concern or understanding about bullying.
But headmaster John Macey disagreed with the claim.
He said: "This is just one parent. The recent Ofsted report said we had an exemplary anti-bullying policy.
"Any incident of bullying is investigated and dealt with appropriately," he added.
"There was an incident of a pupil who brought a knife into school and the police were called.
"The pupil was excluded appropriately. Other parents have commented on how well we dealt with the situation,"said Mr Macey.
