This is a wonderful first book by this writer.

A former German SS Officer, Schwermann, claims sanctuary at a monastery to escape the police who are about to charge him with war crimes.

Meanwhile, Lucy's Grandmother Agnes Aubret is dying and decides it's time to write down, for her granddaughter, her secrets from her life in Paris during the war. Agnes was a member of a small group called the Round Table who smuggled Jewish children to safety until they were caught by Schwermann.

One of the monks, Father Anselm, sets out to locate Schwermanns' collaborator, Victor Brionne.

Lucy is also trying to find Brionne and the truth behind who betrayed the Round Table.

The two sides of this story are both fascinating and the suspense throughout the book is brilliant. There are many twists and turns that leave the reader shocked and surprised. The characters and the story are very believable and moving. The author has done his research well.

This is a wonderful book and will keep you guessing and fascinated to the end. I would recommend everyone to read it.

Best read I have had in ages.
