At its recent meeting, members of the Warwickshire Local History Society were treated to stimulating lecture by Glenn Foard, project officer of the Battlefields Trust.
He is managing the Edgehill Battlefield Project and spoke about new discoveries concerning the first great Civil War battle.
Members will be visiting the site in September 2006, under Glenn Foard's direction, by which time it is clear that a lot more information about the battle will have been unearthed.
For the society's next meeting, Nick Billingham will be speaking about the Stratford Canal.
Nick, the author of a recently published book on this subject, will be giving more details about the turbulent history of this waterway. Lectures are open to all, though there is a charge of £1.50 for non-members - refundable on the night if they join the society!
The meeting will be at 7.15pm on Tuesday, March 15 at the Quaker Meeting House, High Street, Warwick, beginning with the society's short AGM.
Details of this and other society events are available from Neville Usher, 6, The Fold, Payton Street, Stratford upon Avon, CV37 6NJ. Or call 01789 205043 for more details.
