A CHARITY which supports Redditch parents following the death of an adult child has applied to The Big Lottery for a further three years' funding.
Worcestershire PEAL (Parents Experiencing Adult Loss) recognises the loss after a child's death and offers support to any bereaved parent or adult sibling through several means.
PEAL has identified the need for a professional fundraiser and business development manager.
It also wants to offer a specialised bereavement training programme to professionals and voluntary agencies who have contact with bereaved parents and siblings.
A spokesman said: "When we support people directly, we're indirectly supporting other members of the family.
"For instance, when a mother contacted us following the death of her son in a road accident, we were initially asked to give one-to-one support to her and one of her daughters.
"Later on, mother and father both attended a parents' support group and when the daughter came to a siblings' group, she persuaded her other sister to attend with her.
"As this sister was married with young children and grandparents of the deceased were also living, PEAL directly supported four family members and indirectly supported seven more members of the extended family."
