THE boss of Alcester's Greig Centre has made a heartfelt plea to residents to back calls for extra funding from the town council.
Centre manager Stacy Robinson says the proposed extension to the Kinwarton Road venue, set to cost about £1.2 million, is under threat if Alcester's councillors do not offer more cash.
A public presentation has been planned for April and he wants townspeople to support him as he appeals for the town council cash.
Mr Robinson said a feasibility study was being carried out into the future of the memorial hall.
He added: "It's absolutely critical that we get this money and I urge everyone to offer their support.
"We're aiming to develop other areas of the centre - not just the sports hall - to cater for people of all ages and offer a wide range of different activities.
"But this will not be possible if the money isn't there."
Stratford Council originally proposed a grant of £1m but its decision to reduce funding to £800,000 means a shortfall of £150,000 after other funding has been added to the pot.
It looks as if planning permission will be granted after district councillors supported the extension at a committee in Stratford last Thursday.
Approval will be subject to the inclusion of de-mountable fencing and the provision of a parking plan.
The building will wrap around part of the present building, adding multi-purpose rooms, a new gym and changing facilities.
The public meeting has been arranged for Tuesday, April 5, at 7pm.
