GUIDES to five new trails through some of Herefordshire's most beautiful and unspoilt countryside have just been published.

They are the latest in a series of 20 geology and landscape guides published by Herefordshire and Worcestershire Earth Heritage Trust, with five more expected by the end of 2005.

"They offer self-guided walks of between three and five miles," said Moira Jenkins, of the Trust, which is based at University College Worcester.

The latest areas covered are Hampton Bishop, Ross-on-Wye, Queenswood and Bodenham, Woolhope Dome and Wye Gorge.

Each laminated guide points out interesting features such as river cliffs, caves and gorges, abandoned valleys and different rock types.

It also describes how the landscape developed and is affected by the underlying geology.

Guides are £1.95 each and can be obtained from the Trust. Telephone 01905 855184 for more details.
