BRETFORTON took part in the annual county first team tournament involving six teams at Dene Close School.

Their first match was against Premier League opponents Lansdown whose higher status proved crucial in a 1-0 defeat.

The next 15-minute encounter was against Lydney and Bret-forton produced some great attacking play with Deb Slatter and Sophie Corbett making inroads into the Lydney defence.

However it was some good attacking play from right back Liz Murray-White that brought the winner with a fierce shot from the edge of the D into the top left-hand corner.

Lansdown's second string were next on the agenda and a short corner, taken by Slatter to Corbett saw the taker receive a return pass and fire in at the second team of asking to secure another victory.

East Glos were next and they scored a fortuitous winner in the opening five minutes after which some excellent play by Bernie and Michaela Amphlett failed to penetrate the defence.

Stroud came unstuck in the first three minutes with some super play from Sarah Hall opening the scoring with a reverse stick sweep.

The scorer then added a second following some great passing between Corbett, Slatter and Lisa Workman. The win was sealed when Andrea Cole netted from close-range.

The last match against Newent was evenly contested with both teams vying for the win.

Goalkeeper Vicky Webb made some great saves, while Sarah Cooke and Bobbie Handley worked hard in defence.

A great run down the right wing from Slatter saw her round a number of players before scoring the game's only goal of the match with a great shot from the edge of the D.

However, it was Lansdown who prevailed at the end of a busy and enjoyable day as they amassed three more points than the visitors from the Vale.

Bretforton's final match of the season is a rearranged league fixture at Marlborough this weekend.
