A MAN who has been giving blood for almost 35 years is to be honoured at a ceremony.
Joiner and carpenter Chris Westbury, of Headless Cross, has donated more than 75 times.
He will be attending the ceremony in Bromsgrove, being held by the National Blood Service to pay tribute to people who have given huge amounts of blood over the years.
People are awarded for giving on 25, 50, 75 and 100 separate occasions.
Mr Westbury first gave blood at the Kingfisher Hall in Worcester Road when he was an 18-year-old apprentice but admits he had to be coerced into it.
"The tradesman I was serving under was a regular blood donor and told me I should go with him.
"I said 'no' and he told me that I was going with him to donate regardless of whether I wanted to or not.
"After a bit of arm-twisting I agreed to go with him. I'm so glad I did.
"In 35 years I've only ever missed about six sessions because I know just how important it is."
He added: "I'd urge anyone who doesn't already donate to do so. This blood is desperately needed."
