Polesworth 4, Littleton 2
LITTLETON'S ten-match unbeaten run in Division One of the Midland Combination came to an end when they went down at Saturday's high-flying hosts.
However, the final score does no justice to the losers who were the better side for an hour and left the field somewhat bemused at the final whistle.
The visitors opened strongly with the wind at their backs and went close when Jon Gregory fastened on to a long goal kick but lobbed the ball over the crossbar.
This was quickly followed by an inswinging corner from Matty Edwards that was met by the head of Matt Cotton and parried to safety by the keeper.
Littleton pressed further and a free-kick from Edwards whistled past a post and Simon Brain shot over the bar.
The inevitable goal arrived on 32 minutes when Steve Brown received a pass from Gregory and flicked the ball with the outside of his right foot past the keeper.
The second half opened in much the same manner with Littleton pressing for the all-important second goal.
Unfortunately, the next goal came from the hosts on 63 minutes when a long ball was pumped down the right and Mark Roe won the race and lobbed the ball into the empty net.
Three minutes later and Polesworth scored again when Rooke collected a long ball that bounced over the defenders and shot past the stranded Adi Pritchard.
A Gregory shot was parried by the home goalkeeper as Littleton chased an equaliser but two more home goals from Hamilton and Rooke sealed Littleton's fate before Brain ended the scoring from the penalty spot.
Goals from Matty Staley and Chris Bate earned Littleton a 2-0 victory at Wilmcote on Tuesday night.
Littleton, who will face Ath-erstone at Stratford Town's Masons Road home in the President's Cup final on May 14 (3), are on their travels again on Saturday when they visit Stockingford (2.45pm).
